Our Clubs Shenfield Day Nursery

Trusting Relationships

Shenfield Day Nursery takes immense pride in our dedicated team members, a significant number of whom have been part of our organisation for several years. Their ability to forge warm and trustworthy connections with both the children attending our clubs and their families is truly commendable. As many of our young ones transition to various schools, our clubs serve as a seamless continuation of care, thanks to the presence of familiar staff whom the children have already formed strong bonds with during their time at our nursery.

Breakfast and After School Club Manager

I started my working career in Health and Social Care at the age of 18 and worked in that sector for many years, although I always had a desire to work in the childcare sector to help children to learn and grow. In 2012, I became a nursery practitioner in a baby room and I worked my way up to a room leader position. I fell in love with the sector and believe there’s nothing better than helping a child to achieve their full potential. I started working at Shenfield day nursery in 2019 as the deputy manager of the breakfast club. It was amazing to work with the older age group and get an insight to how different this age group were as I had been used to working with the under 2’s. Since being at Shenfield Day Nursery, I have also worked in the pre-school room and currently lead our toddler room (Pooh Bears), alongside my role as assistant deputy manager. It’s so amazing to see the different levels of learning throughout each age group and watching them hit all their milestones is just a joy and a privilege. I am excited to embark on the journey of becoming our breakfast and after school club manager here at Shenfield Day Nursery. I feel blessed to be able to try and make an impact in all the different children’s lives I will be working with.

What happens at the Clubs?

We work in close partnership with both schools to support children’s wellbeing; with day to day handovers where required; transition meetings and regular EYFS meetings for our youngest children. Both clubs operate from the school site, in bespoke buildings with access to the school playground and field areas.  They are equipped with a fitted kitchen with cooking facilities and individual toilets.

Our experienced staff teams strive to make the introduction to our clubs as happy and successful as possible, building relationships with both children and their families to help the settling in process. We offer a range of fun and physical activities as well as providing quiet areas/ book corners for children to rest and unwind after their school day.  Children are encouraged to play outside where weather permits and we enjoy a range of activities and games for example; bat and ball games, football or rounders. Our staff are happy to support with home work if children are keen to do this during their club time.

Our staff members are all qualified/ experienced individuals who have up to date training in Paediatric First Aid; Safeguarding Children; Food Hygiene and Equal Opportunities. Our team work in close partnership with parents to ensure we keep all children’s records up to date with registration, health, allergy and homework information. Our BASC Manager along with the Management Team at Shenfield Day Nursery support and manage the clubs on a daily basis.

A wide variety of breakfast options are available each day including: different breakfast cereals; croissants; toasted muffins; toast; pancakes and fresh fruit. We offer full fat milk or hot chocolate on colder mornings. Our teatime menus include a variety of hot meals such as  quiches, baked potatoes, pasta dishes or fish cakes for example. We also provide a dessert option such as fruit or yoghurt. Every effort is made to provide for special diets if required.

Booking is essential to secure a place within either of our clubs and where we are full we operate a waiting list system. We are very happy to show parents around either of our clubs so please let us know if you would like to visit and learn more about our wrap around childcare.

To contact us to find out more about either of our clubs please email us or call us directly on 01277 211212.

What food are children offered at the club?

At breakfast children are offered a range of options each day. These include a variety of breakfast cereals, toast, toasted muffins, pancakes and fresh fruit with full fat milk for cereals and to drink. On cold winter mornings, children are offered hot chocolate. Our tea time menus include a variety of hot meals such as quiches, baked potatoes, pasta dishes or fish cakes for example. What happens at the club?

The clubs offer both indoor and outdoor activities with more outdoor play during the warmer months. Inside our club buildings we offer a mixture of art and craft activities and children also have a choice of toys and games to play each day.  Our staff teams plan activities around themes of the year including the sporting calendar or any national or royal event for example. A quiet book corner also provides the children with a space to enjoy rest time with a story should they wish to unwind after their day at school. Our staff team also involve the children in cooking and decorating activities which are always popular!  Both of our clubs have lovely outdoor areas which we have access to for the children to enjoy outdoor games and fun together under the supervision of our staff team.

Who can attend the club and is there an age limit?

All children who attend school at either St. Mary’s C of E Primary School or Mountnessing C of E School are able to attend the Breakfast or / and After School Club at their respective school.

Where are the clubs situated?

Our St. Mary’s club operates from a mobile classroom in the playground of the Infant School building on the school site. You can access the classroom by walking through the school car park to the large green gates. You then follow the infant building round and will see a large BASC sign on the mobile building which houses the club.

Our Mountnessing club operates from a purpose built cedar clad building just behind the main reception and school office at the front of the school. You enter through a secure side gate to the right of reception with controlled access. A large BASC sign is on the side of the club building.

What time can we drop off and pick up? Do children have to attend the full session?

You can drop off any time from 7.30am and before 8.20am as we close the gate and there is too little time for children to serve and enjoy their breakfast before the start of school. You are welcome to collect your child at any point during the after school club session, please liaise with our staff team if you would like to collect early and they will facilitate entry to the building.

How do I contact the clubs when my child is in attendance?

Both of our clubs have individual mobile phones which staff monitor throughout sessions.  When your child joins our club the telephone contact will be given to you in the registration and joining information.

Can children join the clubs if they haven’t previously been to your nursery?

Yes, all infant and primary school children are welcome to attend our BASC clubs. From reception class through to Year 6.

How do children get to the clubs after school?

Our staff team collect children from their individual classes and bring them to the club buildings on site.

Can I choose what days they attend the clubs?

Parents are able to select whichever morning and afternoon sessions they require throughout the Monday to Friday week (term time only). We do operate a waiting list if we are over subscribed on your day of choice and we would suggest early booking for the term or year ahead if you know you will be requiring our wrap around care service. We will always do our best to accommodate parents wishes for sessions and days.

What Our Families are Saying

Absolutely outstanding nursery! Our son joined at 4 months old and is now thriving at 16 months. The team are fantastic and really caring. The activities are so varied. He loves it here. The home-cooked dinners made from fresh produce are a big hit with him. We couldn't have asked for a better place for him to start his journey.

We count ourselves very lucky to have our 2 year old son attend Shenfield Day Nursery. The staff are fantastic....kind, loving, nurturing and always thinking of fun activities to do with the kids. We are regularly kept up to date with our son's progress and how he's doing. I honestly can't think of a single complaint! We are so so happy and would 100% recommend it to other parents.

This nursery is like a second home for my child. The stuff is incredible and the activities they do to support children's development and well being are amazing. They have an amazing impact on my child's life and I cannot thank them all enough❤️❤️
