Shenfield Day Nursery, united to foster intergenerational relationships within the community with Old Shenfield Place care home began on February 17, we next joined forces to commemorate Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Our children paid a visit to the inhabitants of Old Shenfield Place, we brought along personalised presents such as love heart stickers featuring uplifting quotes and chocolate-covered strawberries. Siobhan Pinnock, our nursery manager and everyone involved was thrilled to reunite with their acquaintances at Old Shenfield Place.
The people that live at Old Shenfield Place were extremely friendly and delighted to have us visit. It was a delightful experience interacting with them and presenting them with our gifts. They even took us to see the fish in the ponds (shown in the image below) and showed us their remarkable sensory room.
The relationship between the two generations flourished further during a subsequent visit, during which both residents and our young individuals delighted in a fun-filled afternoon of indoor basketball and bonding with Otto the dog.
Chris Ford, Shenfield Day Nursery’s business development manager, said the opportunity to establish this connection with our nearby care home is truly an honor, as it brings about dual benefits.
Our youngsters in Shenfield Day Nursery connections with the delightful residents, gained knowledge on how to engage with the senior population that they may not typically have the chance to interact with. As a result, the seniors at Old Shenfield Place feel appreciated and cherish the time they spend with our young ones, who take pleasure in exchanging handmade presents, playing games, and even singing with them. These intergenerational relationships are extremely valuable and one-of-a-kind.
Last week, the care home extended an invitation for an Easter egg hunt to our children after their previous visits proved to be fruitful. Christina Duran, the manager of Old Shenfield Place, expressed her satisfaction, saying that these visits provided a wonderful opportunity for the residents to interact and bond with the younger generation. She also mentioned that the shared moments of joy and laughter were invaluable, and the home is excited to have the children and teachers visit again in the future.
